The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT)
AAT is the world’s leading professional body for accounting technicians working with around 130,000 members in 100 countries. We strive to build practical finance skills across the world and through our internationally recognised qualifications, courses and professional membership. We focus on meeting the needs of employers, government and learners both now and in the future.
AAT’s Council consists of 20 members, made up of four ex-offcio members (the President, the Vice President and two Immediate Past Presidents), ten elected members and six independent members.
As a charity and company limited by guarantee AAT’s Council members are both Trustees and Directors of the Association with defined responsibilities. Further information on the role of a Trustee can be found here.
We are currently recruiting for an Independent Member of Council with relevant experience to help form and influence the strategic direction of the organisation and provide effective leadership.
As an organisation AAT recognises and benefits from a diverse workforce and is keen to ensure diversity throughout the governance structure. While all applications are welcome we would be particularly interested to hear from candidates with specific relevant trustee/board experience, and skill sets in any of the following areas: digital landscape (in accountancy), education sector and skills development, regulation and compliance, marketing and PR.
The appointment will initially run to September 2022 and Trustees are able to serve for a maximum service period of nine years.
This is a voluntary position however, expenses incurred as an Independent Member of Council will be reimbursed.
In submitting an application, candidates confirm that they would be able to give the appropriate time to Council and any supporting board duties. Meetings are currently being held by video conference until such time as physical meetings can be reintroduced safely.

Application and timeline
- Complete the application form and email to the Company Secretary email@example.com with any supporting documents by the closing date, 16 November 2020.
- Applications will be reviewed by the Nominations and Governance Board in late November and candidates contacted thereafter.
- Appointments will ideally take effect from December 2020.
