Lesley Richards, Head of the professional body CIPD in Wales in a new article discussed current fair work best practices. In their definition, fair work means that all individuals have an effective voice, opportunity, security, fulfilment, and respect in the workplace. It balances the rights and responsibilities of both employers and workers.
- Work can and should be a force for good that benefits people and societies as much as it benefits businesses and the economy.
- Employers need to align their business strategy with a clear people strategy and invest in effective HR practices to treat their workforce as a key driver of value to be invested in.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) in Wales believes that policymakers, employers, and people professionals all have a role to play in ensuring that work is both productive for the organization and fair for employees. Good and fair work is defined as work that is fairly rewarded, gives people the means to securely make a living, provides opportunities for skill development and career progression, provides a supportive environment with constructive relationships, allows for work-life balance, enables physical and mental health, and gives employees the voice and choice to shape their working lives.
